The Masquerade & Hunters

The Masquerade is the secret of the existence of supernatural beings. Rest of humanity walks unwary of the larger forces in their worlds and this is good for everyone involved. But sometimes things come to light and consequences must be had. The hunters are the great regulators, keeping the Masquerade a secret for centuries. So when the Vampires fuck up enough, hunters arrive and clean up their mess, much to the Vampires dismay.

To Many Vampires In New York
At the start of every session a Masquerade Breach occurs that adds 1 Neutral Masquerade Marker.

At the Larp there are Markers on the Map showing how unstable the Masquerade is. It functions like this:

  • Everytime a Character breaches the Masquerade, the Storyteller adds a Clan Marker matching the Characters Clan to the Map. (If a Clan has no Domains a Neutral Marker is added instead.)
  • If there are 7 Masquerade Markers then a Hunter Event will occur.
  • Any Clan with any Markers on the Map will suffer from the Primary and Secondary effect of the Hunter Event.
  • Neutral Masquerade Markers do nothing except fill out the map and help cause Hunter Events.

Primary Lose a random Domain.
Secondary Domains have their Herd lowered by 1.
Increased Police Patrol
The Hunters have spun local law enforcement into patrolling specific areas around town, making nightly hunts for humans hard.

Primary Lose a random Domain.
Secondary Clan Members receive 1 Blood Point next Checkin instead of rolling for it. (they still get other bonuses)
Domain Surveillance
Increased surveillance on specific Domains halts the clans actions of gathering herd.

Primary Lose a random Domain.
Secondary Herd from Domains is halved, rounding down, next Session.

The Hunters are beginning to seize and confiscate occult items of interest.

Primary Clan Members each lose one of their most powerful Component.
Secondary Clan members each lose one Trivial or Uncommon Component Randomly.
Blame the Criminals
The Hunters manages to blame the supernatural exposure on criminal elements in human society, this of course only pushes the problem unto the future because of increased scrutiny from local law enforcement.

Every Evidence also creates a Neutral Masquerade Marker, up to 9 Markers, until the end of next Session.
Vampire Hunt
The Hunters have initiated arrest orders on predatory Vampires, leading to several hurt and tired socialites hampering their focus the coming nights. Of course this only hurts the lower end of a Clan who cannot afford personal security.

Primary Everyone of Clan Rank 3 or below reduces their Prowess by one step next Session. (Does not affect Clan Ghul)
Secondary Everyone of Clan Rank 1 or below reduces their Prowess by one step next Session. (Does not affect Clan Ghul)
Mass Arrest
The Hunters have initialized mass arrest on several humans with ties to the supernatural underworld, of course some of these arrest goes more smoothly than others.

Primary 1 Blood Servant from each Clan Member dies violently.
Secondary Each Clan Member do not receive one of their Blood Servants with fewest Intrigues next Session.
