Ambition & Sanity

Ambition

“A strong desire to do or achieve something.”

All Characters at this larp are cursed with ambition, which makes them do acts of evil out of desperation. Choosing what your Character is ambitious about is important. It’s a goal that represents who your Character is, and is one of your Character’s main driving forces. Remember that your Character became increasingly Ambitious after becoming a Vampire or Ghul. A Character’s age reflects how much of its Ambition is tied to its Clan.

Neonate – Your Ambition is not required to be tied to your Clan Agenda.

Ancillae – Your Ambition must be tied to the Clan Agenda in some way.

Elder – You decide the Clan Agenda, as it is your Ambition. All Elder Ambitions are long term goals with milestones along the way, this is of course something the Storyteller will help you figure out.

Guide
An Ambition is a goal your Character wants to achieve. When creating a goal, choose either a Short Term Goal or Long Term Goal.
1. A Short Term Goal is something very concrete and specific, something achievable but not by yourself.
2. A Long Term Goal is something overarching and can be non-specific. A Long Term Goal is made up of several Short Term Goals.

Examples of Ambitions:

Gaining a title in the city or Clan, or perhaps administering a Domain for a year.

Getting a functioning Clan by not getting a Hunter Event for 9 months.

Getting revenge through making your rival lose all Status.

Gaining fame or fortune by reaching maximum Status.

Passing a Tradition, or a new Taboo into society.

Help the Clan with a specific task that can take a year.

Blood Bond to level 3 and make them do a specific task.

Gain specific hard to get information.

Kill a Connection.

Invent a new Ritual as Clan Ghul.

Take control over a Domain.

Achieving Ambitions

Achieving your Ambition can give some happiness to your Character, but there is always the day after ‘happy ever after’.

Go see the Storytellers Room once your Character has achieved their Ambition. This will cause your character to regain all their Sanity, up to their maximum.

At the next Checkin we’re going to begin talking about creating a new Ambition for your Character.

We try to envision that most Ambitions should take between 6-18 months, though we know that things can move fast if other Characters agree with your Character. Try adding a dramatic element to the relation between Characters if things are getting too easy.

Changing Ambitions

Ambitions can change, either because your Character no longer finds their pursuit worthwhile. Or maybe perhaps you as a player do not find your Ambition exciting.

Come see the Storyteller if you want to change your Character’s Ambition.

Sanity

“It had to be done.

Sanity is your Character’s willingness to achieve their ambitions. Slowly they begin making up excuses for their heinous acts, gradually turning them more invested in solving their goal and venturing deeper into the depths of insanity.

  • SANITY IS NOT your morals or how your Character think or feel regularly, you create what your own Character think is right and wrong. Remember while most Characters were once human, they are also indoctrinated into a hard brutal world.
  • Sanity is how obsessed your Character is towards solving their Ambition. How much they are willing to compromise of their own values in order to get closer to their own goals.
  • Characters have a tiny chance of losing 1 Sanity each Checkin
  • If you ever solve your Ambition you regain all your Sanity up to your max Sanity. Your Connections set your max Sanity.

Major Obsession Disturbing thoughts haunt you to sacrifice loyalty, allies and family in order to finish your ambitions. The ambition becomes most of your Characters time.

When you reach 1 Sanity you lose 1 Connection.
As long as you have 1 Sanity you can no longer choose anything where you lose Sanity.
If you have no more Connections, gain the Flaw “Unstable instead“.
